The best way to find out about the band is to hear us at our next public performance at Elizabeth Park in Bellingham on Thursday, July 16! See Upcoming Performances for details.
Kuungana is a Swahili word that means connect or join.
Our band joins together to play both traditional and contemporary African songs on marimba and mbira. Teenagers and adults join together to play this joyful music.
Our band consists of three former members of the now retired Juba Marimba (Deb, John and Tedd), and three current and former members of The Big Bad Monkeys - a youth marimba band (Adrienne, Maya and Mo) (see link to the left. We recently added Sam from Chigwaya Marimba of Hood River, Oregon.
Our performances are filled with energy, and our music is upbeat, danceable and fun for all ages! We happily share our music through performances, parties, gatherings, fairs, benefits and school workshops.
